Breast Surgery
The usual incision in the breast fold or in the areola can result in prominent scarring; therefore, we prefer to use an incision within the nipple itself, i.e., in the fold where the nipple meets the areola, through a one-half inch incision using custom made instruments. The nipple has very little scarring because the tissues are developed to withstand the suckling of a baby's mouth and in a similar manner it heals with almost no scarring when appropriately used. This incision does not interfere with breast sensation or breast feeding in any more detrimental manner than other approaches to the breast. The preferred implant is a saline implant placed under the muscle through this approach. In certain cases, the nipple diameter is too small to allow the procedure to be performed and an alternate incision is used from under the arm.
