The most common areas for collection of fat seen on non-Caucasians are the waist, arm, and abdomen. These areas are best treated by liposuction.
The scarring tendencies limit the appropriateness of a surgery to remove excess from these areas except under the most extreme circumstances.
Other areas to be suctioned include the inner and outer thigh areas and the back. This procedure is performed generally under local anesthesia with oral sedation with a tumescent technique.
The advantage of this technique is that there is very little bruising or pain after surgery and generally with smaller volume liposuction, the patient can go home the same day.
Because the procedure is done under local anesthesia, it is possible to stand the patient up at the end of the procedure to verify that the patient has a satisfactory result.
