Brow Lift 101: What to Know about the Procedure

What to Know about Brow Lifts

The brows and forehead are some of the first areas of the face to show visible signs of aging. As the skin and soft tissues become less elastic, the eyebrows can become heavy, giving the face a tired or angry expression. Wrinkles appear between the eyebrows and across the forehead.

If you are bothered by these signs of premature aging, you may be interested in brow lift surgery with Charles S. Lee, MD of Enhance® Medical Center. Read on as Dr. Lee explains what this procedure can accomplish and how it is performed.

Why Brow Lift Is Performed

Brow lift repositions sagging or drooping brows higher on the face for a more youthful and pleasant expression. Brow lift also minimizes the appearance of wrinkles across the forehead and in between the eyebrows.

But brow lift can do more than just rejuvenate your appearance. It can also make you feel younger, more energetic and attractive. It can give you the confidence you need to pursue new opportunities and help you feel comfortable in your own skin.

What Happens During a Brow Lift?

There are two approaches to brow lift.

During traditional brow lift, the surgeon makes an incision along the hairline from ear to ear, and separates the skin from the underlying tissue. The tissues and muscles are adjusted to elevate the brow line and minimize visible creases and wrinkles. After lifting the forehead skin, the surgeon closes the incision. Resulting scarring is normally camouflaged within the hairline.

An alternative approach, called endoscopic brow lift, involves using a slender tube with a camera on one end (called an endoscope) and small instruments placed through tiny incisions along the hairline. The surgeon uses the instruments to modify the tissue and muscle to lift the brow and smooth out forehead furrows and lines. Endoscopic brow lift is considered a less invasive approach to traditional brow lift and results in smaller scars.

Are You a Candidate for Brow Lift?

You may be a suitable candidate for brow lift if you are bothered by a low brow position and/or forehead wrinkles and meet the following criteria:

  • You are in good physical and psychological health
  • You do not smoke
  • You do not have any chronic health concerns that could impair your healing
  • You have specific and reasonable goals of treatment
