Ultherapy: When It Makes Sense to Try This Rejuvenating Procedure

Skin Tightening Procedure Los Angeles

Ultherapy has been gaining in popularity across the country, a trend we see mirrored here at Enhance® Medical Center in Beverly Hills. Our patients are excited to have a non-surgical skin tightening procedure designed to reduce signs of aging. Since so many people have asked us whether they are the right age to try Ultherapy, our experts have decided to share their recommendations here. Hopefully this makes it easier for prospective patients to make an informed decision on the procedure.

What Is Ultherapy?

Ultherapy is a treatment that uses pulsing ultrasound heat to tighten loose, sagging skin. The ultrasound energy is the precise temperature needed to restimulate production of collagen and elastin. These are two proteins that are useful for keeping the skin elastic; unfortunately, they decline in prevalence with age. In the ensuing months, the boost of collagen and elastin generated by Ultherapy gradually tightens the skin. As this occurs, fine lines and wrinkles minimize or fade from visibility.

This treatment is usually performed on the face, neck and chest. Ultherapy treatment has FDA approval and requires no recovery time.

What Is the Right Age to Have Ultherapy?

The most important thing to understand about Ultherapy is that it works best on patients with mild to moderate signs of aging. For some people, visible lines start to appear in their mid-30s. Other people — particularly those with good genetics who have avoided sun exposure — may not notice these signs for another decade. Rather than waiting for a specific age, patients should do an assessment of the condition of their skin. Is loose skin detracting from your appearance significantly enough that it is worth the cost of Ultherapy? If the answer is yes, then the patient is the right age for the treatment.

Similarly, patients do not age out of Ultherapy. Though our experts tend to see the most benefits in patients under the age of 65, the condition of the skin matters most. If signs of aging have progressed significantly, a non-invasive treatment may no longer help the patient achieve the kind of results he or she is hoping for. At that point, plastic surgery may be the more appropriate solution. During a consultation, Dr. Charles S. Lee can provide insight on what kind of results Ultherapy can produce for each patient.
